Bike Buddy!

Today I met up with my bike buddy. What the heck is that you say? Well, part of my job is to help people start commuting by bicycle. So I meet up one on one with someone, plan a route to their destination, then ride that route with them. I also give them some safety tips and things like that. My bike buddy today was such a champ! She has a young son and decided to get a bike and a bike trailer instead of a car, MY HERO!!

Today was her first day riding with her son up to campus, so I met up with her in the morning and we rode up the hills together. Her with her son in her trailer, and me with Izzie in her bike seat. It was AWESOME, we were passing students sitting on Indian Street waiting for the bus. I rang my bell and said a friendly "Hello"! to these kids. Now, if you don't live in Bellingham, Indian Street is the main street you go up to get to WWU. These students were taking the bus MAYBE a half mile, if even that, up the hill. And there we were, huffing and puffing with our kids on our bikes riding up the hill.

I am SO proud of my bike buddy! What an amazing woman she is, to give up her car and be part of the solution by riding her bicycle. They are going to have some FUN times together.

Bicycling 29 miles in the rain

This is what happened yesterday:

wake up at 7:30
leave at 7:55
it's raining, HARD
6.5 miles into the ride......
I could catch the bus for the remainder of the ride to Ferndale 8:22
but I decide to keep riding.
Arrive at Mt. View Elementary School 9:07
Check off kids walking and biking to school 9:07-9:25
Leave for meeting out on Meridian Street in the county 9:26
ride ride ride in the POURING rain 9:26-10:09
Arrive for meeting cold, wet, and hungry 10:09
Sit in meeting, still cold, still wet and still hungry 10:10-12:00
Ride home, it FINALLY stoped raining!!

So it was a total of 29 miles, most of it in the rain. I think I have to adjust my bike seat because my knee was KILLING me last night. It's OK today though.
The main problem I have when it's raining is that my glasses fog up or get so soaked that I can't see very well. I think I need some mini windsheild wipers for them. :-)
